Fabulous Character Home This
special home is approximately 100 years old and has been renovated to a high
standard. Set on a huge 974 square metre section, it is full of character. The
vendors have been told that the house was built in 1904 from recycled materials
salvaged from the Great Exhibition building that was erected in Hagley Park,
Christchurch. These materials include pressed steel ceiling panels, imported
from England, and many fine native timbers. Floors are made of black pine
(Matai) 5 x 1 tongue & groove; all internal doors are original kauri with
cast iron hinges; the back veranda area was constructed from Macrocarpa timber,
grown and milled on nearby Banks Peninsula. The front fence columns and
retaining wall are constructed from bricks removed from the old kitchen. There
are 3 double bedrooms, the master with an ensuite and a study. Native trees are
planted all around the garden, including white pines, Mir, Kowhai, Beech and
Totara, and the garden and lawns are irrigated via computer
control. |
